📐 Coordinate Triangle & Triangulation Solver

Enter 3 or more waypoints to measure their shape, or find an unknown location from compass bearings or measured distances. All calculations run in your browser. No map API or key required.

Waypoints are connected in order to calculate perimeter, area, side lengths and a centre point. With 3 points, the shape is a triangle.

Waypoints

Enter coordinates as N 44° 17.000 / W 079° 28.000, or decimal degrees such as 44.283333 / -79.466667. Longitude west is negative. Bearings use true north (clockwise), distances are in metres.

Click a point on the diagram below to select it, then drag it to adjust its location. Diagram uses a local flat projection for editing and display.

Map & selected waypoints

Self-contained interactive coordinate diagram (not a street map). Drag a waypoint dot to move it; latitude and longitude fields update. For close-together points, the diagram automatically fits the locations.

Enter coordinates and press Calculate.

How triangulation works

Bearing triangulation uses intersecting compass directions from at least two known points; three or more improve the estimate when readings are imperfect. Distance trilateration uses ranges from at least three reference points. The calculated target is a best-fit estimate, and the tool shows a residual error. For accurate geocaching over large areas, remember that Earth's surface is curved and compass measurements may be magnetic rather than true.
