Flag Semaphore Alphabet

A–Z reference showing the standard flag positions. LH and RH mean the signaller’s left and right hands—not the viewer’s.

Why charts sometimes look different: Facing a signaller reverses the image from the view looking over their shoulder. Use the view switch below to match your puzzle's perspective. The left/right position labels do not change.

Number mode

Common semaphore charts use the A–J letter positions for digits 1–9 and 0 respectively, after a separate numerals indicator. Without that indicator the same poses mean letters.

Number indicator: LH high · RH up. Return to letters: J's LH out · RH up position is also used as the alphabetic indicator in some conventions.

Letter positions checked against the Australian Parliament’s Semaphore Flag Signalling System descriptions. Different books may choose different orientations, flag colours, or numbering conventions; the underlying arm positions are the same.
